I have a new salad planting in the cottage garden....in an old metal planter that we found when we moved here. I put in a few spare Lettuce plants that I didn't have room for in the polytunnel....and they seem to be doing well...and are very handy for the kitchen!
Allium Christophii is flourishing in the cottage garden too and has begun to spread itself around.
It's nice to see you give new life to that old planter with those salad greens. I was just noticing the book "Garden in the hills" listed on your sidebar, looked it up on Amazon and think it sounds like a great read. I just read a book called "Stronger Than Dirt" by Kimberly schaye and Christopher Losee that you might enjoy. It is a humorous and imspiring read about a couple that leaves suburbia for the country to grow cut flowers and veggies for farmers markets.
ReplyDeleteOoh thanks for the book recommendation Mr H - I'll look that up on Amazon it sounds right up my street. Garden in the hills and its sister volume Hovel in the hills are two books I have been re-reading for the last twenty years. Firm favourites!
ReplyDeleteI'm really pleased with how well those salads have done in the planter. I'm in the process of re-thinking our cottage garden so that there is less flower border and more lawn for the dog to run about on.
